There are several ways to get involved with Christian Life Home other than giving financially. We need ambassadors, volunteers, and teachers to keep our home and program running and for our residents to maximize their experience during their time at Christian Life Home.
Ambassadors let others know about the Christian Life Home. As an ambassador, you can host a living room presentation for your friends, host a tea for the women in your church, or invite us to your church for a presentation. You can also bring friends to Christian Life Home events such as our donor luncheons, banquet or open house.
Volunteers can help by coordinating groups to collect canned goods, paper goods and food, or do yard work or household projects. Plumbers, electricians, carpet cleaners, painters and laborers are all needed to help maintain our homes. Volunteers can teach the girls how to bake, sew, knit, cook, decorate, or make a craft.
Volunteers who have experience, spiritual maturity and good interpersonal skills make excellent teachers for the classes we offer at the Christian Life Home. These classes offer essential teaching and encouragement to the young women. Classes are held one night a week and last for one to two hours. The classes include:
Childbirth
The teacher for this class is required to be a certified childbirth instructor (4 classes).
Prenatal/Nutrition
Nurses and dieticians make excellent teachers of this class. The girls are taught personal hygiene and healthy eating habits during their pregnancy. A curriculum is provided (3 classes).
Sexual Integrity
This class offers information on sex education including sexually transmitted diseases, birth control, abstinence and an overall healthy understanding of God’s plan for sex within marriage. The girls are required to do weekly homework assignments. A curriculum is provided (10 classes).
Parenting
This class educates the girls on the emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of parenting. The curriculum especially focuses on the first few years of a child’s life (6 classes).
Adoption
This class educates the girls on the process of adoption as well as the emotional and spiritual aspects of placing a baby for adoption. This is an opportunity for couples who have adopted babies, individuals who have been adopted, and birth mothers who have placed for adoption to share their testimonies and experiences with the girls (4 classes).
Financial Planning
This class teaches the girls the reality of the financial aspect of being a self-supporting adult. The girls learn about the expenses of housing, transportation, food, and clothing in our society. They are taught how to budget and save, and they are challenged to be good stewards of their money (3 classes).
Bible Study
This teacher needs the ability to make the Bible come alive for the girls and challenge them to personally apply the truths they learn.
We also need:
Housesitters
Occasionally our houseparents need to be out of the home, and we need a volunteer to house sit. Housesitters take over the responsibilities of the home (including the girls) for a few hours so houseparents can leave.
Big Sister
Some of our girls don’t have the support of family or friends to visit them and take them out for special activities. A Big Sister commits to visit once a week, call occasionally, and remember birthdays and other special occasions.
After Care
We occasionally have girls that need a place to stay after they complete our program. Volunteers can offer short-term, transitional housing opportunities.
